Long Beach teen killed in Highway 152 accident
Aug 18, 2008
 By The Free Lance Staff

A Long Beach teen was killed when the Jeep he was riding in crashed into a vehicle trying to merge onto Highway 152 near Dunne Street in south Santa Clara County, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The accident occurred about 11 p.m. Friday when Erika Neves, a 28-year-old San Jose resident merged onto westbound Highway 152 from the shoulder where she had parked, police said. The unnamed juvenile driver of a 2008 Jeep Wrangler attempted to avoid the 2005 Mazda sedan, but struck the read of the Mazda. The Mazda spun 360 degrees and came to rest on the right shoulder. The Jeep continued across the north shoulder and up an embankment before rolling over, landing on all four wheels. The right front passenger, Tyler Wilkerson, 17, was thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene.

Long Beach resident Manuel Madula, the driver's 60-year-old father, suffered minor head and chest injuries and was taken by ambulance to Saint Louise Regional Hospital.

The driver, a 17-year-old Long Beach resident was not injured.

Neves suffered minor lacerations to her face and arm. She was taken by ambulance to Saint Louise Regional Hospital where she was treated and released.

Everyone was wearing seat belts.

Any possibility of charges are pending further investigation, officer Chris Armstrong said.
