After evading San Benito County Sheriff's Office deputies and Hollister police officers several times over the last several weeks, Henry Strickland, one of Hollister's most wanted suspects, was apprehended recently.

The arrest was made following a low-speed vehicle chase in which Strickland, wanted for a violation of parole conditions, was a passenger. The vehicle chase was followed by a foot chase that ended on the grounds of Marguerite Maze Middle School.

The incident began at 2:45 p.m. Aug. 17 when a police officer attempted to pull over a vehicle near San Tropez and Marseille drives. The vehicle did not yield, resulting in a short, slow-speed chase. Strickland jumped from the passenger seat and ran. The officer pursued him to the southwest corner of the middle school where Strickland stopped running, got down on the ground and was detained by use of a Taser, police said.

Strickland was then arrested without further incident and booked into San Benito County Jail. The counts included a felony parole warrant, resisting arrest, and numerous felony and misdemeanor drug crimes, police said.

The vehicle's driver, Taranda Terry of Hollister, was also arrested and booked for evading a peace officer, resisting arrest and conspiracy to commit a crime, according to police.

A search of the vehicle turned up what police say is "a significant amount of collectable sports memorabilia, including an extensive collection of vintage sports trading cards," police said.

Police have been unable to locate the owners of these items and ask that anyone with information regarding recent theft of sports memorabilia, call Officer Bo Leland at 636-4330, extension 151.
