San Benito County has hired a new public works administrator and officials didn't need to go too far to find him.

Hollister Engineering Manager Steve Wittry has been selected to take over the position from current acting Public Works Administrator Janelle Cox. Assistant County Administrative Officer Rich Inman said Wittry is expected to begin worked for the county on July 21.

Wittry has been with the city since 1998 in various capacities including as civil engineer and deputy director of public works.

County Administrative Officer Susan Thompson had this to say about Wittry.

"We are very fortunate to have someone like Steve as our public works administrator. First and foremost, he is an experienced and a well-qualified public official. Secondly, he comes to us from the City of Hollister, so he brings a local perspective to the job and lastly, he was instrumental in getting the City of Hollister's wastewater facility completed on time and under budget."

Wittry was chosen from more than 40 other applicants and will be making $134,376 per year.
