Visitor unhappy with biker rally

Dear Editor,

Three hundred miles one way for me. Don't get me wrong, I love the run and I have made some great local friends.

I just think this year without the cruising and the walking the main street looking at all the bikes and talking to the owners and other riders a ton of why we come is missing. It's hard to walk around the outside blocks looking at bikes. It would be taken by the owner like me as unsafe. On the main street all are watching and you can walk away from your bike and know it will not be harmed. The law seemed pretty cool this year and out of the way.

Please remember this rally is good for all. Bikers like to lay back and enjoy have a few beers, if you drink, and make new friends. And most important, we spend lots of cash when we do have a good time. Law is good but should not be there to earn their keep with arrests and inappropriate tickets. They would not like it if they were micro-managed at their functions - they should not do it to others. Bring the rally back to what is was and more will come. I have a special place in my heart for Hollister and the town. In my personal life it has changed me. I would hate to see it fade away or move just because of non-riders' ideas. We do not ride to be controlled - we ride to be free.

I am far from being a writer but I am trying to express my concerns for what the future holds for all bike rallies. The more raw they are, the better they are.

Beauty pageants are sexist

Dear Editor,

Beauty pageants are sexist, stupid crap. Good for the organizer of the Hollister rally for canceling theirs.

Two years in a row now, the U.S. contestant at the the Miss Universe contest has fallen while exiting the stage.

Is that a message? I think it is. Time to end beauty contests as they are arbitrary stupidity run amok.

Stage Co. show is wonderful

Dear Editor,

Last evening my husband and I went to see our granddaughter, Bailey Greenup, in the San Benito Stage Company production of "The Wizard of Oz."

We went as grandparents, and left completely enthralled by the wonderful evening of local theater.

I would like to encourage everyone who reads this to pack up the family and go to the Granada Theatre in downtown Hollister for a great experience and a fun family time.

Your commmunity should be very proud of the work being done by these talented and dedicated folks.

Bob and Sherrie Ilse, Hollister
